As of Saturday, September 20th, Year 2 of Teens for Food Justice is officially off the ground. The classroom farm at New Beginnings Charter School came to life as TFFJ and New Beginnings staff welcomed returning teen volunteers and mentors to a morning of service program brainstorming and a sneak peek into this year’s exciting farm system expansions that will more than double our fresh food growing capacity at this location.
Meanwhile, applications for this year’s volunteer team are rolling in — we can’t wait to meet our new group of teens on October 18th!
Teens for Food Justice at People’s Climate March
Larissa and Alyssa (pictured here) marched for food justice at the September 21st People’s Climate March, joining the thousands of NYC youth that stood up for climate justice that historic weekend.
Larissa and Alyssa have been volunteering with us since the launch of Teens for Food Justice last fall, and they are a great example of the bonds that develop among TFFJ volunteers. Larissa, a high school junior, is a returning volunteer, and Alyssa, now a college freshman, has transitioned into a leadership role as a mentor.
