Twenty-eight students gave up their Saturday to help clients of the Yorkville Common Pantry select and take home free healthy groceries. They also learned about the demographics of the East Harlem community and the issues and challenges of feeding hungry New Yorkers in tough economic times from pantry director Daniel Reyes.
“I truly believe that during this event we made a huge impact in the community. There was a pain in my heart for the individuals and families that did not know where their next meal would come from, especially the mothers with babies. When they left thanking us and left with a smile, I knew the little help we gave them would resonate with them. And that is a really great feeling.”
