Students representing 11 New York City high schools joined forces with Students for Service and City Year NY to repaint the cafeteria and clean classrooms at the Jacob Riis Neighborhood Settlement House in Long Island City. Underwritten and sponsored by JointSchoolsNY, a non-profit created and
supported by a consortium of Parents Associations representing numerous NYC Independent Schools
, the service day provided needed improvements to the Settlement House, which provides services to 10,000 individuals per year, in a neighborhood where the average annual family income is $23,761.
