Teens Lead Young Children in Social Justice Poetry Slam

Students for Service high school volunteers led children from GOAL, an out of school time program in East Harlem, in a Social Justice Poetry Slam incorporating written and spoken word, dance and music performances to express our youth’s concern about social issues that impact their lives. Our teens showed incredible creativity, perseverance, ingenuity and teamwork as they coached the younger children in individual poetry writing exercises, group writing sessions, and performance of their pieces.
